  1. Joe was Student Body President at Granite Hills High School in 1972.
  2. Joe originally wore #14 at Cal.

  4. Joe held the Cal record for the longest pass completion - 88 yards to Wesley Walker against Georgia in 1976 - until Zach Maynard completed a 90 yard TD pass to Keenan Allen against Washington in 2011.
  5. Joe's favorite song was Miracles by Jefferson Starship.
  6. Joe never carried a GPA below 3.1 in college (includes Cal & Grossmont).
  7. Joe wore #12 because he liked Joe Namath as a quarterback.
  8. Joe made his first start as a Cal quarterback against San Jose State in 1975.
  9. Joe wanted to be a coach after his playing career.
  10. Joe finished 9th in the Heisman voting in 1976.
  11. Joe completed 4 out of 5 passes for about 100 yards in his final football game (Japan Bowl 1977).
